Whitening, veneers, or neither
Professional whitening lifts staining from tea, coffee, tobacco and time. It works on the natural tooth surface, and it will not change the colour of existing crowns, veneers or fillings — which is worth knowing before you start, because mismatched restorations are the usual disappointment.
Where the problem is the shape, spacing or a permanently discoloured tooth, whitening will not fix it. Veneers can, because they change the surface itself. They are a bigger commitment and we will say so.
Sometimes the honest answer is that you do not need either. If a scale and polish will get you most of the way, we will tell you that instead of selling you a treatment.

Common questions
Does whitening damage enamel?
Professionally supervised whitening at controlled concentrations does not strip enamel. Unsupervised high-strength kits bought online are a different matter, which is the reason to have it done properly.
How long does it last?
It varies with diet and habits. Tea, coffee and tobacco bring staining back faster. Most people see a result that lasts many months before any top-up is considered.
Will it whiten my crowns and fillings?
No. Whitening only affects natural tooth surface. If you have visible restorations, we will discuss what the end result will actually look like before starting.
Is there sensitivity afterwards?
Some temporary sensitivity is common and settles. Tell us if you already have sensitive teeth so it can be managed.
What about veneers?
Veneers suit cases where shape, spacing or permanent discolouration is the issue rather than surface staining. They are a bigger commitment, and we will explain the trade-offs before you decide.
